Day 1 – Coles Bay and Freycinet Penisula

This four-day experience departs from Hobart at 8.30 in the morning for the scenic drive to Coles Bay. Morning tea is enjoyed at historic Spiky Bridge, near Swansea before you board the Naturaliste vessel in Coles Bay for a spectacular cruise down the western length of the peninsular to Schouten Island, at the southernmost part of the Freycinet National Park. Keep a look out for the pods of playful dolphins found here and the large Australian gannets that can often be seen diving for food.

After a picnic lunch you can choose whether to make the short but steep climb up Bear Hill for wonderful views over the Freycinet Peninsula, or fish for flathead in Schouten Passage. Return to Coles Bay by boat then transfer to Friendly Beaches Lodge for the evening.

Day 2 – Bryan’s Beach and Wineglass Bay

This morning you’ll head back out on the water for another adventure on the peninsula, you have two walks to choose from. The Bryan’s Beach option will take you through sclerophyll forests and along quiet beaches to Wineglass Bay. As you walk enjoy the close encounters with the local birdlife. For those who are looking for something a little more strenuous opt for the climb from Cooks Beach to Mt Graham, from the top there are spectacular views of the dusky pink granite outcrop of The Hazard’s, make the descent to Wineglass Bay via Quartzite Ridge.

Both walks rejoin at Wineglass Bay in the late afternoon. The perfect time for a swim in the clear waters of the bay and a revitalising cup of tea. Climb to Wineglass Bay Lookout for panoramic views before returning to the lodge.

Day 3 – Bluestone Bay, Oyster Bay Tribe and Friendly Beaches

After breakfast transfer to secluded Bluestone Bay for the start of today’s walk. Discover the geology of White Water Wall and little Bluestone Bay before ascending to the cliff tops. The walk follows an ancient track through sacred bushland used exclusively by guests of Friendly Beaches Lodge. This headland is home to a wonderful array of native flora and fauna including giant grass trees. Crossing the white sands of Friendly Beaches, perhaps taking time out for a dip in the cool water as you go, continue onwards to the lodge. On arrival you’ll find refreshing drinks and afternoon tea waiting for you.

Day 4 – Mt Mary and Saltwater Bay

Rise early and head to the beach for morning coffee whilst all is calm, or enjoy time in the comfort of the lodge. After breakfast there’s an optional walk along the fossil-rich ridgeline of Mt Mary followed by a descent to Saltwater Lagoon, a haven for wild black swans and pelicans. After brunch enjoy a final wander along Friendly Beaches to Isaac’s Point, where you will be transferred back to Hobart.
