Motor Home Holidays in New Zealand

New Zealand could have been created for a motorhome holiday. Roads are wide and for the most part empty, the scenery is on a grand scale and you’ll find camping spots in some of the most incredible locations.

The country is blessed with an abundance of campgrounds and holiday parks, which offer a range of facilities as well as powered motorhome spots. In addition, the Department of Conservation (DOC) manages over 250 public camping areas in some of the most beautiful places in New Zealand.

These sites are usually un-managed, facilities often minimal but the fees are extremely reasonable. There are three grades of DOC campsites and you can expect to pay between $0 - $19NZD per person, person night (correct as of Nov 18) depending on the grade of site. Sites are usually on a first-come first-served basis although DOC serviced campsites can be booked in advance.

It’s something of a misconception that you can park up anywhere you like and camp in New Zealand. Much of the land, as with anywhere else, is privately owned and therefore you cannot camp without permission from the land owner.
