Day 1 Christchurch & West Coast 

You’ll be collected from your Christchurch hotel this morning by your private driver/guide. Travel west across the vast Canterbury Plains into the dramatic scenery of the Southern Alps. After lunch at one of the historic west coast pubs the road becomes increasingly wild as you head towards Punakaiki. Visit the unique pancake rocks as the sun sets.

Day 2 Seals, Gold Mines & Earthquakes

Highlights include a visit to Cape Foulwind and the seal colony, this is a place of early settlers and rugged coastlines. You’ll find a history interweaved with abandoned gold mines, ghost towns and havoc wreaked by earthquakes. Follow the Buller River before continuing on to Nelson Lakes.

Day 3 Sea, Sand, Beaches & Artists

Explore the artisan delights of Nelson; an area well known for its arts, crafts, stunning beaches and hours of sunshine.

Day 4 Marlborough Sounds, Green-Lipped Mussels & a Seafood Odyssey

Travel over the Rai Saddle and down to the Pelorus River, used by Peter Jackson in the Hobbit films. As you follow the Queen Charlotte Grove Road to Picton, the sheer beauty of the Marlborough Sounds is revealed before you. Enjoy a culinary boat tour with a visit to a salmon farm, tastings of Tio Point oysters and a chilled glass of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.

Day 5 Wine, Miniature Sheep & Treehouses

A water taxi will take you to Blenheim. From here travel through the Marlborough wine region where there is time for a fabulous winery lunch before visiting Yealands Vineyard. Here you’ll learn about their aim, which will see them become energy self-sufficient and carbon negative. Continue to Kaikoura, with some memorable photo-stop opportunities along the way.

Day 6 Coastlines, Mountains, Whales & Dolphins

Today, experience one of the many activities that Kaikoura is famous for. Your guide can arrange a water-based whale watching tour (additional cost) or if you prefer, there are scenic flights and helicopter options. Alternatively, the area has a rich Maori heritage which you may wish to explore. Weather permitting, lunch can be enjoyed at an outdoor seafood caravan before returning to Christchurch via the Waipara wine region for a few tastings to end the tour.
