A tale of two cities linked by one of Australia’s most naturally beautiful coastlines. Explore the city vibe then immerse yourself in the natural wonders of the coast as you meander between Sydney and Melbourne.
Day 1 Sydney
After your flight to Sydney you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel. Discover this vibrant city from the water, perhaps scale the heights of the Sydney Harbour Bridge or join a small group walking tour and explore on foot. If time allows why not take a trip out to the Blue Mountains or Hunter Valley, both of which are under 2 hours from the city.
Days 2-3 Jervis Bay
Head south via Kiama to see the famous blowhole. Then head 25 minutes inland to the Illawarra Fly Treetop Walk before continuing to Jervis Bay for 2 nights. Hyams Beach reputedly has the whitest sand, in the world and there’s an easy walk from here to Greenfields Beach, which offers great birdwatching and panoramic views.
Day 4 Tilba Tilba
Make the short detour to Pebbly Beach where you’ll find kangaroos and wallabies playing on the sand. At Narooma you can hop on a boat cruise to Montague Island, a wildlife haven and home to the state’s only known colony of Australian fur seals as well as sea eagles, little penguins, mutton birds and peregrine falcons. Tilba Tilba is a tiny, heritage village with numerous cafes, restaurants and speciality shops.
Day 5 Gipsy Point
As you continue towards Victoria you’ll travel along the Sapphire Coast, home to rocky coves, serious surfing waves and award-winning oysters. Sitting at the head of the Mallacoota Inlet Gipsy Point is the perfect base for exploring the Croajingolong National Park.
Day 6 Metung
Stretching along a peninsula on the Gippsland Lakes, Metung offers sunset strolls, glimpses of kangaroos grazing along the shoreline, pelicans feeding and a bounty of fresh seafood.
Days 7-8 Wilsons Promontory
Covering 50,000 hectares Wilsons Promontory National Park is one of Victoria’s most incredible natural treasures. Follow the walking trails through eucalypt forests to secluded coves and white beaches, hike to the summit of Mt Oberon and wander through the temperate rainforest of Lilly Pilly Gully.
Day 9 Philip Island
Today’s stop is Philip Island, probably best known for the little penguins that emerge on Summerland Beach every evening at dusk.
Day 10 Melbourne
This vibrant city is packed with world-class art galleries, museums and dining experiences from across the globe.
